Garage Epoxy Flooring
What is Garage Epoxy Flooring?
A garage epoxy flooring system is a durable and tough method of garage flooring made from successive coats of glue-like epoxy and sealer.
This garage flooring method has several benefits and acts as a durable protective barrier for your garage floor, does not dust like concrete does, and is very easy to clean and maintain.
How is ShinySand's Process Different From Other Companies?
ShinySand prides itself on using only commercial-grade materials, high-end professional expertise in epoxy flooring services, while also offering extremely competitive prices.
While other companies are using lower-quality materials that result in epoxy flooring projects to degrade in less than a year, our process gives our customers peace of mind that they can enjoy a premium epoxy flooring project in their property that is durable and stands the test of time.
ShinySand only uses 100% solid epoxy resin that is not diluted with other cheaper materials designed to cut costs. We pride ourselves on doing the job for you correctly the first time while offering warm and friendly service at a fair and reasonable price.
What's Involved in a Garage Epoxy Flooring Project?
A garage epoxy flooring system involves several steps.
First, we carefully prepare your garage floor with a diamond-tipped floor grinder.
Next, we patch any cracks and chips with repair materials and grind them down to be flush with the rest of the floor.
After that, the space is vacuumed of any dust and debris and cleaned with alcohol in preparation for the base coat.
A pigmented base coat is applied that prepares the surface for the epoxy coating, which is applied right after any flakes are broadcast across the floor.
The flakes themselves are made from PVC, suspended in a layer of coating and impart a pleasing visual effect.
Finally, a durable and hard, scratch-resistant topcoat is applied.
What Base Colours Do You Use?
We offer a wide selection of base colours as you see here, from A to P, that you can select from.
These base colours are applied to the concrete floor and provide an underneath base colour that can be matched against the flakes to achieve the look you desire.
What Flake Options Are Available?
We offer 9 types of flake, which can be mixed and matched as you like.
These PVC flakes are broadcast across the floor before being bound underneath a clear topcoat, which can be matched against the base colour for the visual aesthetic you desire.
What Are The Benefits of Using Epoxy Flooring?
Epoxy resin is known for its strong adhesive qualities, making it versatile in many industries.
It is resistant to heat and chemical applications, making it ideal for garage flooring as well. It is one of the toughest and most durable finishes that can be applied to concrete floors including garage and warehouse floors.
Among many benefits of epoxy flooring are:
- Car oil spills do not stain the floor.
- Waterproof.
- No concrete dusting: you can walk barefoot on your garage floor and your feet will stay clean.
- Epoxy flooring can curve up against the garage walls up to 30cm.
- Extremely durable: hard coating is resistant to most scuffs and scratches.
- Low-maintenance and easy to clean with just a water hose.
How Much Does a Garage Epoxy Flooring Project Cost?
The cost of completing each project varies depending on the amount of work required, and this is especially true if the current flooring has suffered major chips and deeper cracks, or requires previous paintings to be stripped that entail additional preparatory and repair work.
Because preparing the original flooring is part of the process of setting down the epoxy flooring, its condition will factor into the costs involved in creating your project.
On average, a standard garage epoxy flooring project (e.g. 1 base colour, 100% flake broadcast, and 1 clear topcoat) costs about $1,100 to $1,400 for 1-car garages that are 200-300 square feet, and about $1,600 to $2,300 for 2-car garages that are 330-400 square feet.
Normally epoxy doesn’t need to extend on walls, but by customer request it can be done if desired. Epoxy treatments raised to the edge of garage walls are typically in the range of $300 for up to 1 foot and from 1 foot up to 3 feet for $750.
Type | Area | Price Range |
---|---|---|
One-Car Garage | 200 sqft to 300 sqft | $1,100-$1,400 |
Two-Car Garage | 330 sqft to 400 sqft | $1,600-$2,300 |
Wall Extensions: by customer request, epoxy extensions on walls can be completed for $300 for extensions up to 1 foot, and $750 for extensions from 1 foot up to 3 feet. |
Fundamentally, the two parameters that dictate the cost of your project are the condition of the original flooring and the square footage of the space receiving the epoxy treatment.
